Bring the World Back Into Tune: Variant Album Covers for a Cause
This series of album covers feature portraits of the main characters from the Broadway musical Hadestown. The illustration style is inspired by the Art Nouveau era, incorporating decorative and floral elements throughout the composition. All of the covers combine bold line-work with delicate watercolor to give it a more tactile feel. The final element to pull the composition together is the hand drawn typography. The covers will be sold as limited edition soundtrack covers during the Bring the World Back into Tune Charity event. All proceeds benefit the Black Theatre Coalition. Help bring the world back into tune by supporting your fellow man.
Ferocious Flora
B-horror movies have no shortage of strange and silly antagonists. One trend in particular stands out from the rest–killer plants. Through scale, texture, and typography, the Killer Plants series is an homage to the B-horror movie posters of the past as well as a more chic reimagining of what they could be. The posters focus on four movies from different decades to show how the idea of killer plants has manifested over the years. Each one incorporates a limited color palette meant to represent one of the four seasons. The bone chilling illustrations depict one or two characters cowering from the looming threat of the plant in the background.
The Fire Will Not Consume US
There are many unsung heroes in the history of activism. The graphic novel The Fire Will Not Consume Us highlights the Lesbian Avengers and the origins of their theatrical demonstrations of fire-eating as a form of protest. Each page contains gritty textures creating an independent zine-like quality. To further connect the graphic novel to fire-eating, every illustration is in grayscale except of pops of bold and blazing colors throughout each of the panels. The illustrations focus on the women rather than their environment to highlight the importance of communities of people coming together to create change in even the most challenging circumstances. The story is a reminder to look for the light in a world of hate. Do not be consumed by fear–take action!
