The Fire Will Not Consume US

There are many unsung heroes in the history of activism. The graphic novel The Fire Will Not Consume Us highlights the Lesbian Avengers and the origins of their theatrical demonstrations of fire-eating as a form of protest. Each page contains gritty textures creating an independent zine-like quality. To further connect the graphic novel to fire-eating, every illustration is in grayscale except of pops of bold and blazing colors throughout each of the panels. The illustrations focus on the women rather than their environment to highlight the importance of communities of people coming together to create change in even the most challenging circumstances. The story is a reminder to look for the light in a world of hate. Do not be consumed by fear–take action!
